Tim Modise has been shaping South Africa’s conversations for over 40 years. From radio studios to television screens, he has interviewed political leaders, moderated debates, and hosted programs that informed and inspired millions. His work spans broadcasting, public speaking, and community leadership, making him a respected voice in media and society today.

About Tim

Timothy Molefe Modise has worked in broadcast media for over 40 years, starting at Radio 702 as a sound technician in 1981. He later joined Radio Bop, SABC News, Radio Metro, and various television platforms including SABC TV, M-Net Carte Blanche, BBC Radio, and helped launch PowerFM.

He pioneered public education talk radio at Radio Metro in 1988/89, transitioning to political and news talk shows during South Africa’s transition from apartheid to democracy in 1994. He interviewed major figures such as Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Ahmed Kathrada, Thabo Mbeki, Chris Hani, F.W. de Klerk, Mangosuthu Buthelezi, and many more.

Modise hosted debates and voter education programs, including the famous Mandela–de Klerk debate broadcast to 800 million viewers worldwide. He has also worked with NPR, BBC, and hosted shows on SAFM, Radio 702, Cape Talk, and continues to engage audiences on Biznews TV and podcasts.

1981 - 1986

Early Broadcasting Career

Started at Radio 702 as a sound technician, then moved to Radio Bop as a presenter, SABC News as a journalist, and finally Radio Metro in 1986.

1988 - 1994

Transition Era Broadcasting

Hosted voter education programs and political debates during South Africa's transition. Panelist on the historic Mandela/de Klerk debate broadcast to 800 million viewers worldwide.

1994 - 2010

Post-Apartheid Media & Public Roles

Hosted talk shows on SAFM, SABC TV, Radio 702, and Cape Talk. Appointed by President Thabo Mbeki to chair the 'Proudly South African Campaign'. Served as Chief Communications Officer for 2010 World Cup LOC.

2010 - Present

Business & Continued Broadcasting

Chairman and later CEO of Sizwe IT group. Helped launch PowerFM in 2013. Continued broadcasting on eNCA, SABC, SowetoTV, Business Day TV, Biznews TV, and his own podcasts.
